Hanover Soccer "Goes Orange" To Support The Haven
The Hanover Boys Soccer program is teaming with the Upper Valley Haven to promote
the Haven's "Go Orange With the Haven" project for the month of September.
The Marauder Varsity boys will be wearing orange socks in their home game with Londonderry
on Tuesday, September 9th at 4:00 p.m. and encouraging all players, parents and
spectators to donate non-perishable food items to the Haven's Food Shelf. We are particularly hoping to have full participation by every member of the soccer program. If every player participates, that will mean 100 food items for the Haven!
Home teams in the NHIAA are required to wear all white, but Hanover was given
special permission by the NHIAA to wear orange to highlight their commitment to
the Haven.
"We collected 46 pound of food at our last home game", commented Coach Rob Grabill,
"and when I delivered it to the Haven, I learned about this month's "Go Orange"
promotion, and figured wearing orange at our next few home games would be a nice
way to raise awareness."
"Even if Hanover staff and students don't come to our game on Tuesday, we're hoping
they can support us by beinging a non-perishable food item to school on Tuesday. We'll have collection boxes in the Atrium, right next to Ford's desk at the entrance."
The Haven has also received a challenge grant from an anonymous donor, promising
to match any cash donation for the Food Shelf for the entire month of September.
"Although we are asking staff and students to bring food items, we would be thrilled
to have anyone, including parents, consider making a cash donation to the Haven
Food Shelf, knowing that it would be instantly doubled," said Grabill.
We would also love to have as many players as possible "Go Orange" on Tuesday by wearing anything orange (Dutch national team uniform, Touchline Jersey, prison jumpsuit) to school on Tuesday. Orange is the new Maroon!
