Junior Varsity Delivers in Home Opener
The Bishop Guertin teams were victims of a faulty bus, and got to Hanover an hour late. In the JV game, they were then victims of a relentless offensive display from our boys, who dominated from start to finish in a shortened 4 – 0 game.
Robbie Murdza started the scoring 15 minutes into the match, chasing down a nice leading pass from George Geraghty to send a clean shot home for the lead. The group substitution followed, and a flurry of shots peppered the BG defense, but none found the net. The score was 1 – 0 at the half.
Then, in the second half, the scoring opened up. With the aggressive midfield and defense controlling the game, the entire half was basically played on Hanover’s offensive side. Shots began to find net, with Yedne Atkins lofting a corner cross to Jack Hazard, who, in his characteristically determined way, fought through a crowded box and nailed one at close range to double the lead at 2 – 0. Geraghty got in on the scoring for the third Hanover goal, on a solid header off a blocked shot, and the tired visitors wilted even more.
Casey Starr finished off the scoring, scoring after corralling a long lead that glanced off a defender, and nailed a feisty goal around many bodies. Minutes later, the whistle mercifully blew, and Hanover walked off with a resounding 4 – 0 win in their opener.
The defense of Jack Pattison, Roger Danilek, Ben Sobel, Lucas Adams-Blackmore, Ingio Panos, Addison Wanner, Jensen Dodge, and the whole gang was stellar, and Marauder keepers Harry Olszewski and Owen Brooks got very little action through the match.
Next up is a home match against Concord September 3 at 4:00 p.m.
